CRU has had another successful year!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our success by making a donation, volunteering your time or just coming out to pay Ultimate. As a non-profit, we are only able to expand the sport of Ultimate in Cedar Rapids with your support.
Many of you demonstrated your belief in our mission during our fundraising drive this May. Our generous donors contributed more than $3,000 which allowed us to secure operating funds for more than a full year. Your continued support will enable us to keep expanding our services and help grow the Ultimate community in the Cedar Rapids metro area.
This year we used your contributions to organize local tournaments, reduce the price of our youth camp and purchase discs and jerseys for youth players and to sell back to increase our financial resources.
We used $176.41 to cover the expenses of hosting two hat tournaments, which both had a higher number of attendees than in 2014. We spent $625 on insurance, $70.20 to market our programs, and $244.40 on our Youth Ultimate Camp. We also spent $1,011.28 on new merchandise which will last us more than two years and will enable us to offer discs and jerseys to all the children who participate in our youth camp.
Our Youth Ultimate Camp is the main purpose for our fundraising efforts. We believe that organized youth sports, especially a sport as inclusive as Ultimate, should be affordable for all children. This year we were able to reduce the price of attending our two week summer camp to $15. Meanwhile, each participant is given a $10 disc and $20 jersey. Thanks to the support of our donors, we are able to spread the sport of Ultimate to area youth at a cost much cheaper than any other team sport in the area. This Youth Ultimate Camp is a large part of our mission. We believe that teaching area children Ultimate will not only help grow the local Ultimate community over time, but it also teaches kids important life skills such as teamwork, self-confidence and conflict resolution.
